Visit Fenelon Falls

Falls
Nestled between Cameron and Sturgeon lakes at the centre of the City of Kawartha Lakes, Fenelon Falls has grown to become a popular place for families to cottage and spend their vacation time.

The village takes its name from, and is built around a set of horseshoe falls dubbed "Little Niagara" by the locals, that spill their waters into a natural limestone gorge.

Directly adjacent to the falls lies Lock #34 of the Trent-Severn Waterway System. This 42' vertical rise lift lock is a major attraction for the village, and is the most visited lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway, both by land and water.

Fenelon Falls was settled in the late 19th century, and its history is tied closely to the lumber and agriculture industries as the falls' power was harnessed to operate sawmills and gristmills.

The railway line that serviced these industries has since been turned into a multi-use trail system that links several communities within in the City of Kawartha Lakes, and beyond.

Having always served as a hub for the surrounding communities, the village has a healthy mix of businesses and retail stores. Visitors, seasonal residents and local villagers seldom have to travel to seek out their goods and services.
Flowers in the Village Downtown
Much of the original historical architecture is still surviving, and lends the village a quaint 'period' atmosphere. The village core with its Victorian storefronts and converted period residences is home to a mixture of shops and restaurants that cater to visitor traffic and local clientele. Fenelon MuseumThe local museum is located in the first house that was built in the village, and the historic train station now is serving as a venue for local artists and artisans to display their work.

The surrounding lakes and rivers provide outstanding opportunities for boating, swimming, sailing and of course fishing. With scuba gear you can explore the underwater beauty of the limestone gorge carved out centuries ago below the falls.

The community is also host to public parks, a public beach, and a children's play area.
